This is a rotating spinner for spinning yarn. Its design is inspired by the Slovak 'Druga' spinner whereby a frame rotates around a centre pillar and creates spin on the fibre, thus creating yarn. This is a variation on the traditional tool which also allows for the creation of a plying ball as you spin.
It is possible to spin both S-twist and Z-twist yarn on this spinner, as well as ply.
This spinner favours thicker spinning and I wouldn't advise spinning much thinner than sock yarn (about 15 WPI) due to the tension it places on the yarn in order to rotate.
A full spinner consists of:
• One Handle (your choice of colour)
• Stopper (matches chosen handle colour)
• M5 Nut (the bolt is embedded in the handle)
• One Reel (your choice of colour)
Additional Reels are available without purchasing a handle. If you would like to purchase a reel only, select 'None (Reel Only) when choosing your Handle. A full spinner (handle, stopper, nut and reel) is necessary for creating yarn. My original druga handles are compatible with the plying druga reel, so if you already have one you don't need to purchase a second handle - your old one will work.
The bolt used is a 12mm M5 bolt. It does not need to be particularly tight - holding it with your thumb and twisting the handle is sufficient.
The surface in contact with the stopper and bolt will be quite rough - this is a limitation of 3D printing due to support placement. It does not affect use and is not noticeable once the stopper is attached.
This spinner was 3D modelled, printed and hand finished by me using Bambu PLA filament on a Bambu Lab P1S printer in my home.
